Hello everyone,
It’s hard to believe that it’s been ten years since I first set myself the challenge of capturing every stage of the Tour de France in ink and watercolour. What started as a simple idea has grown into one of the most rewarding and enduring parts of my artistic journey — and as the 2025 Tour approaches, I’m just as excited as I was back then to follow the riders through every climb, sprint, and heroic breakaway.
A decade ago, I fell in love with the Tour not just as a cycling fan, but as an artist fascinated by its energy, drama, and sheer beauty. There’s something magical about translating that blur of wheels, straining muscles, and swirling wind onto paper — trying to pin down fleeting moments that tell the story of each day on the road.
Over the years, I’ve experimented with all sorts of materials — pastels, oils — but I always come back to my trusty pen, ink, and watercolours. For me, they capture the raw spirit of the race best: the bright colours of the peloton, the sweeping landscapes, the tension and triumph on the riders’ faces. Each drawing is a snapshot of the passion, grit, and emotion that make the Tour de France the greatest race in the world.
For me, these drawings have become more than just pictures. They’re a daily ritual during July — a chance to slow down, watch the race unfold, and connect with cycling fans around the world who share my love for this sport. It’s been an incredible way to bring people together through art and cycling.
As the 2025 edition gets ready to roll out, my inks and brushes are lined up and ready for another three weeks of action. I’ll be sharing each stage on my Instagram and Facebook, so if you’d like to follow along, please do join me — I love seeing your reactions and hearing which moments move you the most.
Thank you for riding this journey with me for the last ten years — here’s to the next chapter, and to many more stages of drama, colour, and inspiration!
See you on the road,
Garth
